Summer Travel Tales: Lake Placid and Adirondacks. Episode 1: Where to Stay

Six hours away from New York City is a pristine universe with babbling brooks, hidden trails, endless lakes and mystical ponds. It’s the eco-blessed region of Lake Placid and Adirondacks. Nestled amongst the wild woods and glowing rivers lie small towns like Keene and Jay with holiday rental cabins waiting to sweep you away from urban life and the world of laptops and Wi-fi.

We rented a small cabin or chalet in Jay that was straight out of a travel magazine for our four day adventure. It had everything we could possibly need for a short stay – a beautiful deck, patio, a gas grill to barbecue, a cozy small bedroom up in the loft and a warm and comfortable living room to lounge around in our PJs, overlooking the woods. Perfect to hang out with friends tor just gaze up into the sky with a warm cup of tea. As for me, I was just content to sit in a corner and read one of my favorite Victorian mysteries without a care in the world.

What you need to know:

The Adirondacks and Lake Placid region is perfect for a summer or winter getaway. Did you know Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1980? So if you love skiing, the snow, hot chocolate and afternoon naps, head here in winter. Like me if you’re a summer lover, this is the best place to enjoy the sunshine and a plethora of activities. Hiking, swimming, fishing, rafting, biking, trekking, canoeing, horse riding, kayaking….the possibilities are endless. You could do all of it or just sit on a beach and soak in the sun!
